T W O I H S L E C T U R E R S A T T E N D E D A NA S E A N - I N D I A T R A I N I N G W O R K S H O P I NN E W D E L H I , I N D I A A training workshop organized by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Institute ofGenomics and Integrative Biology in New Delhi was held from the 20-28th September 2019 and hosted atotal of 35 academics from ten different ASEAN countries. Proudly representing Brunei and UBD were twolecturers from Institute of Health Sciences; Dr. Mas Rina Wati Hj Abd Hamid and Dr. Liyana Ahmad, as wellas three students from Faculty of Science. The workshop theme of “Emerging Technologies for Young Biotechnology Professionals from ASEANcountries”, was aimed at training and demonstrating various techniques in the field of Genomics, Microbialpathogenesis, Nanobiotechnology and Artificial Intelligence with special focus on their applications inacademia and industries. These sub-themes were delivered by eminent scientists and researchers in theform of a seminar series, on-site and off-site laboratory demonstrations, and interactive workshops; wherethe participants were introduced to technological advances and innovation that are currently drivingresearch at the frontier. The workshop also reviewed big leading research themes that are spearheadingnational and international research in India, with the hope that it will encourage future collaborationsbetween India and Southeast Asian countries. Participants also gained industrial experience by visiting Dabur Research Foundation, one of the leadingresearch organizations in India, where they were exposed to the workflow process of drug discovery, drugdevelopment, and drug clinical safety to its eventual manufacturing. The delegates also had the privilegeof attending CSIR Foundation Day at Vigyan Bhawan, during which they witnessed awards given tooutstanding Indian scientists who have contributed significantly to their fields. This nationwide celebrationof Science was graced with the presence of the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind who presented theprizes for various fields, including medical sciences, chemical sciences, mathematical sciences andengineering. Cultural highlights included the opportunity for delegates to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra, which allowedinformal time to network and exchange ideas between participants. 8D r .
