The Langenbeck project aims to upgrade theOperating Theatre simulation room at IHS. It involvesdesigning and replicating surgical equipment orappliances to simulate a surgical room environment toenable students to learn through experiencing nearreal-life patient care thus enhancing the integrity andquality of teaching delivery. Six innovative development areas or sub-projectsutilising reclaimed and recyclable items, repurposedhome goods, used wooden pallets or low-costhardware to improve the operating theatre ceilinglights, diathermy machine, reception desks, armboard, instrument table and patient’s warmermachine, as part of the Langenbeck project werecompleted since 2017. The cost for each projectranged from BND10 to BND100 and was coveredexclusively by the team members. The implementationof the projects aspired UBD’s mission in empoweringfuture-ready leaders through innovative educationand enterprising research.B E Y O N D | J A N . T O M A R . 2 0 2 0 | I S S U E 2 0 9I H S ' S P R O J E C T L A N G E N B E C K R E C O G N I S E DA T T H E P R E M I U M I N N O V A T I O N A W A R DC E R E M O N Y The ‘Anugerah Inovasi Perdana (AIP)’ or the PremierInnovation Award is the expansion and integration ofthe Excellent Public Service Award and ExcellentWorking Group introduced by the Prime Minister'sOffice to inculcate a culture of innovation in thedelivery of public services. This award aims torecognise and acknowledge public or privateagencies, in an individual or group setting, who aresuccessful in driving innovative projects leveragingtechnology to improve client service and usersatisfaction. The Nursing and Midwifery team at PAPRSB Instituteof Health Sciences UBD submitted two projects forthe AIP competition (11 entries were received in totalacross various ministries). The projects entitled:‘Menjana Kemapanan Kecemerlangan PerkembanganPerkhidmatan Pendidikan Kejururawatan danPerbidanan’ by At Tafani Wal Iltizam and ‘KaedahPenyampaian Perkhidmatan Pembelajaran SimulasiKursus Kejururawatan Bilik Bedah Yang Inovatif danKos Efektif’ by the Langenbeck team were judgedwhere the latter was awarded the consolation prize. The AIP award was presented by His Majesty SultanHaji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adulKhairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of BruneiDarussalam to Dr. Mursidi (who initiated and led theLangenbeck project) and team members comprisingthe elective operating theatre nursing students fromIHS, UBD and the School of Health Sciences,Politeknik Brunei during the 26th Civil Service Daycelebration at the Plenary Hall of the InternationalConvention Centre, Berakas on 12 November 2019.Dr. Mursidi Ali receives the consolation prize at the PremiumInnovation Award ceremony (12 November 2019) on behalf ofteam members for their innovative Langenbeck project.The Langenbeck project aims to upgrade the Operating Theatresimulation room at IHS via designing relevant surgical devices orequipment utilising reclaimed, low-cost materials to enhancestudents' learning.
