A Nursing faculty member and student withtheir respective teams participated in theCrown Prince Creative, Innovative Productand Technical Advancements (CIPTA)Awards 2019 under the Category 3:Creating New and Modifying ExistingProduct, Process or Technology by YoungInventors. This year’s Crown Prince CIPTAAward was themed ‘Industry 4.0:Convergene of Innovation. Ak. MohdZulfikri Pg. Hj. Zulkifli (Master of HealthScience (Nursing)) and his team membersMuhammad Amirul Fahmiin bin Abdullah(Universiti Teknologi Brunei) and Wan NurZahidah binti Metusin (Freelance Graphicdesigner) submitted their hygienehealthcare management device ‘VepoDevice’ which won third place in thecompetition. They received a cash prize of$2,000, certificates and a trophy. Another project was submitted by a nurselecturer, Dr. Hajah Asmah binti Haji Husainiand her team members from the Faculty ofIntegrated Technology (FIT), Awang RenAndal Virrey (PhD in System Engineering)and Awang Muhammad Mu’az bin Hj Imran(Bachelor of Engineering) which won fourthplace. They submitted their invention‘MedibAind’, which is an emergencydiabetes management system. It involvesgathering experiences from patients andprofessionals through activities such asinterviews, observations and groupdiscussions to identify particular issues toimprove the service or care pathway.Acknowledging the importance of multipleperspectives in the development ofinnovative ideas, the Office of AVC(Innovation and Enterprise) at UBDsupported this study design by holding oneof the EBCD discussion in their space in Maythis year. Ak. Mohd Zulfikri bin Pg. Hj. Zulkifli, aMaster of Health Science (Nursing) (byresearch) student, under the supervision ofDr. Hajah Asmah Haji Husaini, from thePAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences hasdesigned a novel hygiene equipment-the"Vepo Device" that innovates the currentbed pan that is used in clinical andrehabilitation settings. They adapted theEBCD approach to carry out the process of‘proof of concept’ for the product design.Experts and service users includingwheelchair users, nurses, student nurses,elderly members of the public, engineeringstudents from the Faculty of IntegratedTechnology (FIT), architect and designersfrom private establishments and UniversitiTeknologi Brunei provided comments andsuggestions on the proposed productdesign.
