T O M A R . 2 0 2 0 | I S S U E 2 0 Hot on the heels of last year's inaugural event, the 2nd IHS Graduate Students Research Day held on 18January 2020 attracted a flurry of well-deserved compliments from various members of the institute. While the main aim of providing a platform for graduate students to showcase their works, promote andfoster cross-disciplinary research remains unchanged, this year’s event also gave them the opportunity toacquire organisational and leadership skills. The graduate students, with the help of a number ofundergraduate volunteers, were wholly responsible for the entire event. They took charge of tasks rangingfrom the formation of an organising committee, to the invitation of speakers, to the arrangement of venueand refreshments, and to the smooth sailing of the day itself.  Running the event according to the format of an international conference, the 2nd Graduate StudentsResearch Day managed to attract research topics coming not only from all the graduate programmes atIHS, i.e. Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health and Nursing/Midwifery, but also a topic on medicalcommunication from the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences. In addition to the keynote address by Prof.Kenneth Kok entitled “The Next 10 Years of Health Sciences”, a total of 14 oral and 3 e-posterspresentations respectively were delivered. The best oral presentation was awarded to Mirza Azmi (Re-analysis and comparison of Bruneian Malay genomes), who was also the chairperson of the organisingcommittee, while the best poster award went to Nur Jazilah Hafizah Pg Harun (Molecular profiling of BRAFmutation, MSI status, and PD-1, PD-L1 expression in Brunei colorectal cancer  patients). Success of theevent was evident from the many active discussions following each of the talks; a point which was alsohighlighted in the closing remarks of Deputy Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anne Cunningham. Benefits andrippling effects of the Graduate Students Research Day are, without a doubt, manifold.
