PAPRSB IHS recently concluded a workshop series on "Essential biostatistics" (5th to the7th of July) and "Instrument Validation" (10th to the 12th of July), facilitated by ProfessorMuhd Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing and Dr. Hanif Abdul Rahman. More than 30 participants fromdiverse backgrounds including scientists from Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and teachersfrom Ministry of Education (MOE) as well as academic researchers and students from UBDincluding education (SHBIE), business and economics (SBE), science and humanities (FOS &FASS), biodiversity (IBER) and health sciences (IHS) embarked on the journey to equipthemselves with theoretical and practical skills essential towards high-quality quantitativeresearch. Throughout the workshops, the participants were introduced to and utilised powerful andfree analytic softwares - R and RStudio that advances users to the next level of academicand professional applications. Participants learned and engaged in essential statisticaltests of biostatistics, and effectively and accurately apply the analyses, interpret findingsfor their respective fields. Towards the end of the programme, the participants provided constructive feedback on theworkshops. A certificate of attendance for the participants were presented by ProfessorMuhd Ayub Sadiq @ Lin Naing, the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Innovation and Enterprise,and Professor in Biostatistics in IHS, UBD. The biostatistics workshop series marks theachievement and ongoing efforts by IHS and facilitators to provide an avenue forresearchers in Brunei to properly conduct high-quality quantitative studies that translatesinto high impact practical applications and publications, and further opportunity tocollaborate across different disciplines and expand as well as cultivate intellect andresearch culture across institutions.
