Master of Medicine
The Master of Medicine (M.Med) at IHS introduces accredited, structured and certified training programmes for medical graduates who are undergoing Basic Specialty Training in Brunei Darussalam. The M.Med programme brings in 9 specialties: anaethesiology, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, general internal medicine, pediatrics, primary health care, psychiatry, public health and surgery. Its vision is to develop high quality and comprehensive training to graduates to become consultants in an effective, efficient, responsive, affordable, equitable and accessible manner.
The M.Med programme is carried out on a part-time basis and is delivered through a series of modules over the span of 3 years in block release mode (4 days each session, 5 sessions a year).
Master of Nursing
The programme leading to the Master of Nursing is conducted either 36 months full-time or 48 months part-time. Students of the Master of Nursing programme must select an area of specialisation. The areas of specialisation for the Master of Nursing are:
- Primary Health Care
- Accident & Emergency Care
- Cancer, Palliative and Supportive Care
The student, to be considered for award of the Master of Nursing degree, needs to obtain a total of 64 modular credits (MCs) from core modules (52 MCs) and specialisation core modules (12 MCs).
Master of Public Health
The MPH programme offers relevant, high-value instruction, research and service aimed at enhancing the health of human populations. Its principal focus is on helping public health professionals acquire up-to-date generalist and specialist knowledge, skills and attitude required to effectively and efficiently address present and emerging local, regional and global public health challenges. The MPH programme consists of 3 main concentrations, which are (1) biostatistics and epidemiology, (2) community health nursing, and (3) health promotion.
The normal duration of the MPH programme is 18 months full time and 36 months part time.
The student, to be considered for award of the MPH degree, needs to obtain a total of 52 modular credits (MCs) from course modules, a practicum, and a research exercise. Of the 52 MCs, 20 are from core course modules, 12 from option course modules, 8 the practicum and 12, the research exercise.
