Taking your MRCGP exams in Brunei

Brunei is the first country in the South East Asia region to be granted the Host Examining Body status for the Membership of Royal College of General Practitioners United Kingdom (MRCGP UK) in 2005. PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, UBD is proud to be the Host Examining Body for this international examinations. The aim of the examination is to ensure high level of competency in general practitioners or family physicians in clinical care of patients, indicated by scientific knowledge, clinical skills, attitudes, values and leadership qualities. The criterion-referenced examination consists of two modules:

The MRCGP [International] Brunei Examinations is held annually in November. In 2018, the important dates are as follows:

  • Deadline of applications: 1st September 2018
  • Written exam - Applied Knowledge Test (AKT): 9th November 2018
  • Objective Structure Clinical Examinations (OSCE): 11th November 2018

Suitable applicants should fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Currently in clinical practice
  1. Bruneian candidates working with the Government
    1. Have undergone three years of structured Vocational Training Scheme (VTS) in primary Health Care AND
    2.  Have successfully completed at least two years of the Masters of Science in Primary Health Care programme
  1. Other candidates (including international candidates, expatriate doctors working in Brunei Darussalam, and Bruneian doctors working in private sector)
    1. Have undergone three years of structured Vocational Training Scheme (VTS) in primary Health Care OR
    2. A minimum of five years independent clinical experience in primary health care

When you have passed both modules of the examination within the time allowed (3 years), you may apply for International membership from the Royal College of General Practitioners. In addition, there will be a two-day exam preparation course a few months before the exams, and will be held on 25th and 26th August 2018.

The exams and course are held at the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The course will only be confirmed when a minimum of 5 participants have submitted their application forms by 15th July 2018. Once the course is confirmed, we will inform you via email soon after that. The payment should then be made latest by 31st July 2018.
